Education Needs a Digital Upgrade

QUOTE: "Chances are just that good that, in spite of anything you do, little Oliver or Abigail won’t end up a doctor or lawyer — or, indeed, anything else you’ve ever heard of. According to Cathy N. Davidson, co-director of the annual MacArthur Foundation Digital Media and Learning Competitions, fully 65 percent of today’s grade-school kids may end up doing work that hasn’t been invented yet."

REACTION: As a parent of a child in grade school this hits close to me. When you have children you want them to be the best that they can be, and never give up on their dreams. How can a child have a dream and then that dream be shattered for the simple fact that 65% of our children may end up doing jobs that have yet to be invented. My child already has the career choice chosen, and he can reach that with the support of family, friends and teachers. I just hope that the school board will keep technology into the school systems and not hold anything back. My child does work on the computer that helps him with math, reading, spelling, writing and applied subjects.

  1. I Agree with the not holding back technology in school but my concern is ... how will this help ALL students. Some need hands on work and teachers to be right next to them. not them given a computer and saying go. I understand technology is moving fast and we need to keep up with it but ... in the long run are we still going to have computers or something completely different?

  2. Technology will not be able to help ALL students at all. I understand that there are students that need the hands on concept, and should always have it. We as a society should not restrict as childs way of learning just because technology is moving so fast.
