Best and worst Webquest

  1. Which two of example WebQuests listed below are the best ones? Why? We chose the Grow Schools green and the Unraveling the Underground Railroads as the two best. Both of these webquest give good information that is detailed and good eye catching pages.
  2. Which two are the worst? Why? We chose Ancient Egypt webquest and We All Scream for Ice Cream as the two worst Webquests. Both webquest did not give enough information for the topics and was boring to look at.
  3. What do best and worst mean to you? Best means to me something that I am going to be able to learn from and get great resourceful information about my topic. Worst means that I am not going to gain information from a unclear topic and it doesn't give a lot of information.

WebQuests Worksheet

Your Role
___Efficiency Expert
___Affiliator
__X_Altitudinist
___Technophile
Your Impressions
WebQuest
Strengths
Weaknesses
Grow School Greens
You are able to use many programs within the computer and also websites. Example: power point, excel.
It gives you what you should be able to do at the end of the time frame given.

Give too much information within the teachers view, could have cut some things out. Example would have been how other subjects fall into play.
I think they should have already asked the principle for permission to build a garden before all the time and effort put forth.

Where is My Hero?
Just enough details for the project. Does not overload their brain with unwanted information. Gives an outline to what needs to be done and the grading scale for that.  Gives a good worksheet for which one you chose.

It states could use 2 Presidents from the list but there are only 3 on the list.
Should be able to pick a hometown hero and search for that also, not everyone who is a hero is as famous as some that are listed. Some are not even heroes.

Underground Railroad
The evaluation sheet that they have.

Could have combined the two topic and websites to look up together.
Could use a little more information

Ice Cream

Gives them skills to use a few programs from the computer. Gives web pages to guide you

The site is to boring, not a lot to do per say.

Ancient Egypt

This site is not very good at all.

Top Ten Video

The activities I engaged in were different from when I was in school. When I was in school we did not use technology, except for research and that was very seldom. They were the same as far as polls and research but it was all done in class with books and magazines. We were never given a rubric to use to follow through. My learning style is addressed in this activity, I am a better learner by hands on and group work. The students actually got to participate and help make the voki and be part of this activity. I am not suprised that this class did not use a textbook. Technology has come a long way, and textbooks are not always up to date and may have some false information since it takes a few years to publish. I would be interested in becoming a teacher that uses technology like this, that way students won't get bored easy and the shy person can get involved and enjoy the class just like the normal outgoing student. One barrier can be a family that does not use technology or are not able to afford these ammentites for their children. Some children will shy away from these items, just try to enforce its ok for them to use this. Another concern could be the students that are not that good at technology may not want to do this.

Blogging view

In the beginning of the semester I enjoyed blogging and kind of looked forward to it by giving our thoughts to the way we think about things. More into the semester it has gotten boring and I do not enjoy it anymore, there are times where it takes everything I have to sign on to complete assignments. This is the only time I blog and never blogged before then. So maybe it was just because of the idea of doing something new, I dunno.
I do not believe that you can become a more effective teacher due to the fact that you blog. It can bring intrest into some subjects and ideas, but what really makes you an effective teacher? It is the way you teach and not what you write into a blog. I have more respect towards my teachers in grade school and jr. high compared to college professors. This is due to the fact of hands on teaching and them being there for us at anytime when we need to ask questions. Technology is coming  to stay, but I think that some go over board with it and thats all they want to use.
After this class I will not continue to blog, I don't have time to. Being in school full time and motherly duties blogging will be the last thought on my mind. If I had more time and thought more about it I would, sometimes it is good to stay away from the technology because no matter where you are and what  you are doing it is everywhere.
I believe that collective intelligence is a new way for media literacy. In this class we have used this by reading articles and giving our feedback. We have been able to share with our class and also others who would want to view this blog. It is also a way for that shy person to get his or her thoughts out there and not be afraid.
