Teaching Media Literacy

QUOTE:  Today's digital media literacy encompasses many additional topics, from using search engines, to creating Web sites and online profiles, to participating in social networking. One of the most basic strands of media literacy emphasizes the skills and knowledge students need to locate and critically assess online content.

MY THOUGHT: I agree with this quote 100%, if you have a teacher that is willing to go the extra mile to teach students how to do this why not take it. Many teachers will go above and beyond the basic teaching methods and teach further into the subject and hope that they will use this new knowledge. I am glad that our teacher goes the extra mile to teach us sites or programs that we can use and access at home. I have always been on facebook or myspace back when it was popular, but I knew nothing about blogging until this class. I am glad that we use this because a person can write their thoughts and share them with people and get their feedback. This could be helpful for those that don't have anyone to talk to, and sometimes its easier to talk to a stranger. I am learning alot about media technology that I didn't know about, and I hope to continue to learn new things.
